BENEVOLENCE STORIES ABOUND
This is a busy time of the year at "Foundation headquarters" as March, April and May are when we receive the largest concentration of annual reports from constituent Masonic Angel Funds.
We thought it appropriate to share some of the benevolences we observed on recent annual reports. We selected three Lodges whose stories we have not reported recently. The stories we chose for inclusion in this broadcast are by no means the only benevolences these Lodges have done but they provide a flavor for the diverse ways in which Masonic Angel Funds support their communities' children in need.
Mariner's Lodge (Cotuit, MA)
Three summer camperships
Art classes
Stop & Shop gift certificate
School breakfast for a semester
Gift certificates for kids displaced by fire
Clothing for a boy placed in emergency foster care
Portion of the cost for a hearing aid
Wellesley Lodge (Wellesley, MA)
Transportation from foster care so a child could remain in her same school
50% of tuition for "Days in the Arts" sponsored by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood
Eyeglasses
Balance on prom dress for a girl whose dad suffer a stroke and "her mother went away"
Four month rental of a saxophone
Winter coats, pans, shirts, underwear and socks for a family of four children (only $310 for everything!)
Fraternity and Fuller MAF (Newton, MA)
Taxi transportation to and from three after-school activities for two weeks while mother had to stay at the hospital with a critically ill infant
Partial tuition to Boys Club
Eyeglasses
Winter coat for a twelve-year-old girl (only $26.98!)
Field trip fees for five children (two live in a shelter and the other three live in "complicated" situations)
After-school program scholarship for two special needs children
This gives all of us a flavor of what some of our Masonic Angel Funds are doing for benevolences. We note that a few of these are high-ticket items but the vast majority fall within the $100 to $250 range. It is also significant to note that some of the MAF's above are in what one would perceive to be "wealthy" communities - but we still see numerous needs that must be fulfilled. In virtually every "wealthy" community serve by MAF we find that there are always children in need.
